America's wolves need our help!
America's wolves were nearly eradicated in the 20th century. Now, after a remarkable recovery in parts of the country, our wolves are once again in serious danger.
In Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies
On
March 6th, 2009, U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar approved the Bush
Administration's discredited plan to eliminate Endangered Species Act
protections for wolves in Idaho and Montana -- a decision that could
lead to the deaths of more than 1,000 wolves! Take action now to save wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies...
In Alaska
More than 1,000 wolves in Alaska have been killed by aerial gunning
since 2003, and state officials are pushing to kill even more wolves
this year using aerial gunning, poison gas and snares. Take action now to save wolves in Alaska...
In the Southwest
Misinformation and anti-wolf sentiment runs high, with
the few remaining wolves in Arizona and New Mexico at risk of
extinction. With only four breeding pairs of Mexican wolves left in the
wild, we need sensible, science-based wolf management to ensure the
“lobo” will survive -- and thrive -- in the wilds of the Southwest. Take action to save wolves in the Southwest...
Defenders of Wildlife continues the fight to
promote common sense wolf management, working with federal and state
officials and private land-owners to ensure that science -- not
politics -- guides decision-making about the future of these wild
American icons.

By Jessica Youness
Nathan Cobb peered through his telescope, as the clipper ship came
closer to the barrier islands...
He watched in horror, as a giant wave, hit the ship, crashing it into the rocky barrier.
Nathan yelled for his sons to "ready the skiff, we are going out"...
As they rowed out, into the rough waters of the storm, Nathan himself, was the first to reach down into the depths and lend his hand, to save a man from sure death...
The boys, right by their father's side, wasting no time to pull the rest
of the crew to safety.
After they were safely on shore, there was hot food and drink waiting for them...
As they sat around the fire, drifting off to sleep... Nathan starred deeply into the fire, thinking back to a time, when he and his wife and sons, first moved to the Eastern Shores of Virginia.
There, Nathan and his family settled in the town of Oyster in the 1830's.
Nathan had big plans, an "entrepreneur" at heart and risk taker, he later bought a little island off Oyster, now
known today as "Cobb Island" ...
Nathan and his three sons, Nathan jr., Warren and Albert, started a ship salvage business. This in time, enabled
them to build a "sportsman" hotel, that became very popular amongst the hunters and fishermen, near and far.
Nathan and his sons, were great hunters and fishermen themselves and guided all who were interested.
Today, Cobb Island is nothing more than a "ghost island" of the past, with echoes of Nathan's voice in the waves...
The ocean and mother nature has reclaimed, what was once theirs...

by Curtis J. Badger and Rick Kellman.
